But did you know that summer is a time when people go on holiday and there is often a huge shortage of blood? That is why we are organising a summer voluntary blood donation campaign on 22 July from 9:00 to 14:00.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW?
- Men can donate 5 times in a calendar year
- Women can donate 4 times in a calendar year
- The quantity of donated blood is restored in 24-48 hours
- The quality of donated blood is restored in 3-4 weeks
- 60 days is the minimum interval between two blood donations
- You will receive 2 days of additional paid leave - for the day of blood donation and the day after (Art. 157, para. 1, item 2 of the Labour Code)
- If you wish, you will receive the results of tests for AIDS, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and blood group.
- After the donation, you will receive a free breakfast
IF YOU WOULD ALSO LIKE TO DONATE, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARE
- Be between 18 and 65 years old, in good health and weigh more than 50kg.
- Make sure you are well rested, drink plenty of fluids and eat breakfast.
- No medication required 48 hours before donation
- People with chronic diseases cannot donate blood
- Know that you are saving 3 lives!
- Carry an identity card with you
- Women must not be menstruating and must have been 12 months post-pregnancy
! DO NOT stop taking your medication if it would endanger your life!
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED AFTER THE DONATION?
- Avoid heavy physical work and sport on the day of the donation.
- Avoid smoking for at least 2 hours after giving blood
- Avoid straining your arm for at least 4 hours after giving blood
- Drink more water and avoid alcohol after donation
- The compression bandage should remain on the arm for at least 2 hours
- Consume foods and fluids rich in iron and vitamins for the first 3 days after donation
- Vegetarian food does not affect recovery
- Volunteers involved in high-risk professional, or hobby activities should wait at least 12 hours before returning to these activities.
The blood donation will take place in Preventika on 22 July 2024, from 9.00 to 14.00, with the help of the caring and smiling medical team of the MILITARY MEDICAL ACADEMY.
